Configure Joomla Two-factor Authentication ( Google-Authenticator )

Setup Google Authenticator with Joomla 2FA plugin. This guide will help you to configure Google Authenticator as Two Factor Authentication ( 2FA ) method for your Joomla site. The Joomla 2FA plugin will add a second layer of authentication to your Joomla account to increase the security of your site from unwanted hacks and unauthorized login attempts.

Passwordless Authentication :-

Passwordless authentication allows users to log in without the need of remembering a password. Instead of conventional username and password, users enter their mobile phone number or email address and receive a one-time code (one time password) or link on their phone number or their email address, which they can then use to log in.

Pre-requisites : Download And Installation

Steps to Configure Google Authenticator 2FA method for your Joomla site

1. Install miniOrange 2-Factor authentication (2FA/MFA) Plugin

• Joomla 4 Configuration
• Joomla 3 Configuration

• Download the zip file for the miniOrange 2-Factor authenticationient plugin for Joomla from the link here.
• Now go to the System -> under Install section -> click on Extensions
• Now under Upload Package File click on browse for file then select zip file of 2FA plugin.

• Once Zip file is uploaded then click on Components -> miniOrange Two Factor Authentication -> Register/Login
• Now you can Register with miniOrange

• Download the zip file for the miniOrange 2-Factor authenticationient plugin for Joomla from the link here.
• On your Joomla admin console go to Extensions Manage Install

• Under Upload Package File tab. Drag the downloaded file OR upload file by click on browse for file

• Go to Components miniorange Two Factor authentication Acount Setup

• Now you have to login here with your miniOrange Account credentials in order to use the plugin.

2. Test Google Authenticator 2FA method

• Now go to the Components section -> miniOrange Two Factor Authentication -> click on Setup Two factor
• Click on Test button of Google Authenticator.

• Now download and install the Google Authenticator App. Then Scan QR code or use Secret Code . Then enter the Passcode generated by Google Authenticator, then click on Verify button.
• Now you Successfully Tested and Activated Google Authenticator method.

• Now go to the login Tab setting,click on enable the two factor plugin and enforce 2 factor registration for the user at login time.and click on the save button.

• Now you have Successfully configured the Joomla 2FA plugin.
